25th Anniversary
Germany Tour
In recognition of our 25 years of co-creation, we travelled to Germany to take part in a series of events celebrating our work. The tour offered a meaningful opportunity to share the evolution of our artistic practice, connect with local and international artists, and open conversations toward future projects.
Our visit to Wuppertal was hosted by Tanzrauschen, which organized the On Move, Move On festival to mark the occasion. On May 6 and 7, our films were screened at the Rex art house cinema as part of the programme. Our time in the city also included presentations of MABOUNGOU: Being in the World and Byron Chief-Moon: Grey Horse Rider, a dance documentary workshop (May 8), and a panel discussion on 1001 Lights (May 10), where we were joined by Bundestag member of parliment Helge Lindh and singer Judith Genske.
Throughout our visit, a broader selection of our work was presented at the n46 gallery, including an exhibition of the 1001 Lights installation. Following the panel, the Judith Genske Trio performed a concert of so-called “degenerate” songs from the 1920s and 30s in response to the installation. This was a particularly moving and resonant moment in relation to the themes explored in 1001 Lights.
We were then welcomed in Bremen by steptext dance project and the Deutsches Tanzfilminstitut Bremen (TAFI). As part of steptext's dance-film week I Want to Be Moved by You, a retrospective screening of our films and an artist talk was presented at TAFI, alongside screenings and events at Schwankhalle, home to the steptext company. These included works by German dance filmmakers (May 13) and a “Back to Basics” workshop (May 14) for participants interested in creating dance-film projects.
The tour became a rich moment of exchange, offering an opportunity to reflect on the evolving relationship between dance and the moving image while building connections with new colleagues and communities.
Vielen Dank — thank you, Germany.
